The Race For Life And The Hubby's Birthday BBQ

Posted by Mrs Jones on 17th Jul 2012

Well last week the old man turned 32 and as a treat his birthday presents were mainly focused on his love for his BBQ and honestly how many men do not like a good old BBQ! We have a Broil King Signit 40 already that we use for catering at Game fairs, like the CLA (which was cancelled due to bad weather or we would be there this weekend).

Bruce has been talking for ages about wanting a smoker box for the BBQ, his love for fish on the BBQ (so he wanted a fish grill) and also having a rotisserie attachment, and who am I to stand in the way of him offering to cook and it not being sausage surprise (the surprise is there is, more often than not, no sausage in sausage surprise….) So I duly bought all of the above from the shop… why go elsewhere when I can get it all there. Kevin who works in the hardware department was kind enough to guide me through the process of what attachments fitted which BBQ as I truly had no idea. He also called me when all the presents had been delivered into the shop so I could go in and collect it directly. For the smoker box I also bought some flavoured woodchip to make the meat and veg on the BBQ taste extra special. On his birthday and after a lot of wrapping paper later, Bruce was one happy birthday boy. So the only thing left was to test out all the new goodies and the perfect excuse was after Hereford Race for Life.

Myself, my two cousins, Kate and Emma, and our friend Sarah, ran race for life round the racecourse at Hereford. We all made good times, although I was last out of us all, but it is the taking part that counts I keep telling myself. So back to ours we trudged and after a few much needed G&T’s we watched Bruce cook up a storm on the BBQ. We fed 10 of our family on Sunday and had plenty of room on the BBQ for more food and thus more people. I do like to entertain and it was also a perfect excuse to get out all of my Denby chinaArthur Price cutlery and my Denby glassware that we got for our wedding. It was a perfect end to Sunday and despite tired legs and feet we enjoyed both the race and the BBQ. The husband (and my Dad) was kept happy with the new toys for the BBQ and really did do us proud. A win all round.
